I get it, and then my board either slips out or goes back down. Is there a specific way to stay up?

It’s all about balance. Just play with your foot position until you find something comfortable, and try to keep you body over your back trucks.
I like to position my upper body in front of the back trucks and my hips behind the back trucks, this kind of puts Alf your weight on either side of the bolts. This is just what I do, it may not work for you.
Bend your knees a lot and practice on some carpet so u don’t slide out
Balance on your back truck. Frontfoot on the further bolts and the backfoot in the middle of your tail. Try to balance with your hips, use your arms and bend your front leg.
