How do you pull back your foot without falling?

By learning to shift your center of gravity. The one leg squats can help here. When you stand on your board your weight is distributed on both legs at 50-50. When you pull your front leg to the back most of your weight should be transferred to your back leg. I hope this helps and goodluck!

Actually, if gain enough speed you won't even have to push your board with your back foot. With enough speed you can turn it into sort of jump off-jump on action.
just try to keep a steady and fast speed. then, instead of just stepping down, try a more hop-like step with your foot. i've personally found that helps a lot. just keep practicing and if that doesn't work try taking your board to the grass and try the steps there first. when you feel confident, go back on the road/pavement/wherever you are and try again
When I first learned this trick, I had the same problem. My suggestion is that you should shift your weight to your strongest point of balance. Another choice is to shift your weight towards the front of the board.
Don't try to 'flick' the board forward. While you are hopping off pull your back leg gently and shortly towards you.
You can kinda hop off the get the hang of it and then you can try too pull back your foot
Try hard man
