A downwind side flip, ducking the sail before the jump.
How do it
A stylish and effective new school trick where you don’t have to bear away, or even need chop to pull off. It’s a downwind side flip, ducking the sail before the jump.
1.
Pick up speed, find some flat water and begin the trick as you would a Bob, ducking the sail and grabbing the boom on the opposite side.
2.
Prepare for the jump — have your clew arm bent, mast arm straight, crouch down.
3.
Throw the sail forward with both arms, gradually bringing it downwind. As soon as the sail goes over the nose, begin to straighten your legs, in order to pop off. Use the power from the opposite side of the sail to help lift off. Bending your mast arm, move the sail underneath you.
4.
Hold the sail in horizontal position and rotate your body above it, bringing your back leg behind you. Look over your shoulder in the direction of rotation and turn your body. Keep your clew arm bent, while your mast arm is extended and directed in the direction of movement.
5.
Land in backwind position and flip the sail to the other side, like when doing a Spock, by dragging the clew across the wind and grabbing the boom on the opposite side.
