How do it
The dream of every newbie windsurfer. Also called the Spin Loop, this is a side flip from flat water, with the mast rotating parallel to the water. It’s actually a rather simple trick, but understandably scary to try for the first time. Start learning this trick on the shore, then graduate to jumping in the water with training equipment, and finally jumping from chop or waves in strong wind, using a small sail and board.
1.
Pick up speed, get some good power in the sail. Prepare for the jump — bear away, choose a chop or wave, grab your clew hand as far back as you can and release the harness. Launch from your chosen chop or wave.
2.
During the jump, extend your front arm downwind, while holding the sail open with your clew hand.
3.
As soon as the board takes off, draw your knees up, bend your back leg, quickly and forcefully close the sail and look back over your shoulder. Remain in tuck position, hold the sail closed during the entire rotation and look back to the clew side.
4.
To stop the rotation, slide your clew hand to a narrow position and open the sail when landing. Or keep the sail closed until landing, to continue planning. Land on the tail by slightly extending your back leg.
5.
Preparatory exercises: individual speed loop movements on the shore, jumps into the water with training equipment, wave jumps in low wind. Wear a helmet on your first attempts.
