Similar to ollie for skateboarders, it is a basic jump, when you just take the board off the water.
How do it
An ollie for skateboarders, a bunny hop for bmx-ers — and a chop hop for windsurfers, i.e. taking the board off the water. As basic as they come, the first jump to try after learning how to plane.
1.
You can try this jump anywhere — flat water, chop or waves. Begin to plane. Prepare for the jump — grab the boom in a wide hold, release the harness, shift your weight over the board and bend your knees.
2.
To take off from the water, quickly extend your back leg, close the sail and pull your leg up. By bending your front leg at the knee, raise the nose of the board upward.
3.
Once you pop off the water, continue holding the sail closed, pull up closer to the boom and extend your toes downward. Focus on raising your back leg heel, so the wind can blow under the board and help you jump even higher.
4.
Begin to straighten your legs before you land. Start with your back leg, so that you gently enter the water tail first. Land bearing away to maintain speed. To do so, direct your weight over the board, move the nose downwind and slightly open the sail.
