A turn that takes the nose of the board away from the wind.
How do it
The second basic turn in windsurfing is performed downwind.
1.
Sail halfwind (across the wind). Open the sail, grab the boom close to the mast. Straighten your mast hand, release your clew hand and begin to slowly drive the sail forward to the bow.
2.
Take one step back with your front leg, so that you now stand legs closed and across the board. Continue to drive the sail over your front shoulder.
3.
When the board turns downwind to it's new course, take a step forward with your back leg, to the new side of the board. Grab the boom with your back hand, crossing over your front hand, and pull up the boom towards you.
4.
When the mast is vertical with your front arm bent at the elbow, grab the boom with your other hand at shoulder width, slightly close the sail and begin movement in your new course.
