I had the exact same problem and something that helped me was having a shorter and more progressive edge and looking into you armpit area for longer. And when you stop rotating when your upside down you can give the handle a small pull and it can help speed up the rotation agian.

The twist is given by the eye, and you have to look away until you see the water. as if you look back and it stops the rotation
