Do you push only with your back leg or do you make a slap with your front leg and then push with the back leg?

you make the wave with pushing your front leg water (preollie) then you u do a basic Ollie. Preollie will increase the high of your jump

Short answer: Yes. Long version, it depends on your leg power and how high you are trying to get, the slap helps learning because it gets a little tempo or rhythm going for ya. Hope that helps

More of a gentle push with your front foot then roll it back and push really hard with your back leg as you are lifting the nose of your board into the air.

Slap
Slap and after that push the back leg. This is because your Ollie will be higher)
Yeah
I usually slap with my front leg and then push the back one to get as higher as possibile
Try to minimize snaps and pay attention on your back leg.
Yes as the other answers and you also want to shift your wieght on the back leg after you have made the 'slap' then lean back a tiny but, lift up your front leg and follow with your back leg :)
You want to do a preollie to break the water tension. It will make it easier while you are learning and help you Ollie higher once you have it down. It is not necessary though, a lot of good riders do and do not do it.
You push with back then jump
You can do eithe however if your looking for bigger air push on your front leg first
It should almost feel like the front of your board is sticking out of the water, then push down with your back foot, which will pop the board out of the water. The you put a little weight on your front foot which will flatten the board out which will give you the apex of your Ollie

Slap with front then push with back. Actually not a slap just go smooth is best results than aggressive slap.
Jump like a goat 🤘🏿
