You are trying to ride straight on a flat board and brake.
How do it
If you’ve already gotten a feel for the heel edge, then it’s time to move on to this exercise. What you’ll be trying to do is ride straight on a flat board (board straight) and brake (speed control).
1.
Start off with a heel slide.
2.
Now shift your weight onto your front foot. Your board will begin to move diagonally. Keep your eyes in the direction of movement.
3.
Continue holding your weight over your front foot. Lower your toes, ending up on a flat board. Look in the direction of movement and keep your weight over your front foot.
4.
This position will have you accelerating very quickly, so keep it short and shift your weight onto your heels. If you’ve kept your weight over your front foot, then the board will begin to carve and finally transition to a heel slide, which we’ve already covered.
