A transition where you don't come off the rail.
How do it
A surface (or surf) is a transition where you don't come off the rail. When performed on boxes and dance floors, it's actually easier than a regular transition, but on narrow rails it's very challenging and quite dangerous (we'll cover this separately).
1.
While sliding on a box, lower the nose or tail of your leading ski (depending on whether you want to transition fs or bs).
2.
Once you've begun to turn, bring your feet together and forcefully press them against each other, so that when they end up parallel to the rail, you won't catch it between your legs.
3.
With the most dangerous part behind you, place your legs at a comfortable distance and continue riding in your new stance.
