I actually face backwards while popping. Try putting the ball of your pop foot in the "pocket", with the ball of your flick foot hanging off somewhere in the middle of the board and pointing a little toward the back truck. Match the "tilt" your pop foot that's in the pocket to the tilt of the flick foot that's in the middle of the board. Face backwards with your shoulders "crossing" the board so that your shoulders and the board make a plus sign + . This stance seemed to solve everything for me.

Put more weight to the skateboard nose. Dont be perpendicular to your skate. Push your torso to your skateboard nose. Your skateboard wont go away.
