Just practice grabbing it first without popping

It is an early grab trick your supposed to have your hand in the grab before you pull the board up

If youre having trouble getting your hand on the board as its popping, grab further back, you are less likely to get a smacked hand. Also get low and compress your torso before grabbing so once you plant your foot, you can expand upwards as youre pushing against the ground.
