You can try it without pop, just return your board with your frontfoot, (back foot on the tail and front foot at the edge of your board) put your back foot on the floor and do the hospital flip, after try to catch it. I hope you understand what I want to say

I belive that you really have to try carpet board, it really helped me to land this trick and others. Carpet board it’s like a board without trucks and wheels, you put it on a carpet or a moquette or a tatami (it’s a carpet of hard sponge that it used in karate) and you try that trick. If you search on internet carpet board you find what it is :)
