A full rotation backwards over the head.
How do it
A backflip is a backward somersault done in the air. It is considered a basic skill in gymnastics, but only because it is a building block to many other skills.
1.
Start standing up, with your back to the mat or spotter and your arms by your ears.
2.
Swing your arms down and behind you, while bending your knees.
3.
Swing your arms back up and jump as high as you can. Keep your head neutral, looking straight ahead. Your jump should go upward. Your arms should stay straight.
4.
Once you've jumped and set your arms, your hips will rise above your head.
5.
As you lift your hips over your head, you’ll tuck your knees up to your chest and rotate backwards into the flip.
6.
Land with the take‑off leg. You should land with your knees bent, ready to absorb the shock of landing.
