Alright what I found helped me was riding on one foot carfully on a smooth flat, then slowly lowering my leg more and more.

What I do is put my foot right against the longboard and start with my heel and slowly put the rest of my foot down
Yea and try to put most your weight on the board until you feel comfortable making your weight equal. Try to keep your foot close to the board if you are going fast and want to foot break
the best way ive learned to foot brake is starting out with a method called "pussy footing" and thats just hanging your toe off the side of the board to slightly slow you down and once you reach a speed that youre confident to put your foot on the ground and even then put your entire foot down gently with your knee bent and slowly straighten your leg and stand up to apply more pressure to stop
Yeah and if you ride normal. Bend and use the left leg like you would a one leg squat.
