A barspin performed while jumping from your rear wheel.
How do it
Conquering your fear is the first step to learning Bunny Hop Barspin. Riders often try to execute the barspin from the smallest hop they can muster, or even from no hop at all. Don't, you simply won't have enough altitute to spin the handlebars correctly. Aim for at least a 30 cm jump. You must also practice the correct way of hopping for this trick. For the barspin to work your front wheel has to be level with your back wheel or higher. Pull the handlebars, then push them forward, while at the same time clutching the seat with your thighs.. Your body should be tilted forward, with your front foot's toe directed upward, resting firmly on the pedal. When you reach the peak, begin turning the handlebars. Keep your elbows bent. Catch the bars before you land.
1.
Before attempting to do a bunnyhop barspin, be sure to master the throwing/catching motion. Practice this on the ground. Throw with one hand, and catch with the other by sticking it underneath your throwing arm. People typically throw barspins with the hand on the side of their front foot.
2.
Do a bunny hop. Bring the handlebars forward and stick your butt out while you clutch the saddle with your thighs. Your legs are slightly bent, and don’t be afraid if your feet move in to the cranks, it is natural.
3.
Throw the handlebars at your peak height, making sure to repeat the same motion you practiced on the ground. Repeating the motion several times before each attempt will help your muscle memory and make the trick easier.
4.
Catch the barspin and land on both wheels. Don’t expect to catch the barspin in the air at first, you may catch slightly after you land. Clamping the seat with your legs will help you stay balanced in case you do land before catching completely. Practicing with an indoor bike will make learning the trick significantly easier (see video).
