Getting speed is essential skill to get for further progress. You generate your speed by turning up and down the wave and trimming along, by bending your knees as if you skateboard or snowboard, by positioning in top third of the wave.
How do it
Getting speed is an important part of surfing technique that will allow you to progress further and start performing tricks.
1.
It’s useful when a wave in front of you has begun to break and you want to slip past the collapsing section. Or when you just need more speed to pull off a trick.
2.
If you split the wave into 3 equal sections, then for this move to be most effective, you must try to stay in the top section of the wave.
3.
Keep your weight over your front leg. Shoulders are across the board, hands in front of you at waist height.
4.
Squat down lower than you would in your regular stance. Lower your hands slightly.
5.
Start to stand up up and simultaneously throw up your hands in front of you.
6.
Your body and arms should begin to move forward, while your legs pull up the board.
7.
As soon as you complete this uninterrupted movement, squat back down and start anew.
8.
Each full movement is called a pump. Try to not go over 3‑4 pumps. If your technique is correct, this should be more than enough to accelerate your board.
