Duck diving is the way that a surfer dives under an oncoming wave as paddling towards the lineup, performed not to lose progress made by paddling.
How do it
To ride some real waves you first have to reach them. If you meet a wave on the way to the line-up, it means you have to dive it.
1.
Hold the board at both sides with your arms, close to your shoulders.
2.
Begin to submerge the nose of the board.
3.
Follow the nose underwater.
4.
Continue to submerge your body and the board. Place your back leg onto the tail.
5.
Raise your front leg to help submerge the board.
6.
By the time you’re completely submerged, the wave should already be over you.
7.
Begin to push the board upward with your arms.
8.
Simultaneously begin to push the board with your back leg. Your goal is to pop out the board behind the wave and resurface with it.
9.
Make sure all the movements are performed without interruption. There should be no delay while underwater. As soon as you submerge — it’s time to resurface.
