Making a backside cutback is reversing the direction that you are surfing in one smooth fluid move, facing the water line with your back. It is performed if you are entering a flat section, where the wave is backing-off.
How do it
Perhaps the easiest element out there. Tackle it as soon as you get comfortable witht he bottom turn. It will help you remain in the correct section of the wave.
1.
Perform a shallow bottom turn.
2.
Begin to stand up and throw up your arms in the direction of wave movement, just as you would when getting speed.
3.
The board should be riding forward on the wave.
4.
Begin to squat down.
5.
Turn and look in the direction of the foam and wave crest.
6.
Squat down as much as you can and shift your weight onto your back leg.
7.
Hold this stance until you reach the foam.
8.
Push off the foam.
9.
Turn your head and shoulders and look at the wave face once more.
10.
Complete turning your body, then turn the board.
11.
Look along the wave and continue riding.
